In Best of JYI 2018, we are giving you the chance to vote for your favourite articles published in JYI this past year! One Research Manuscript and one News and Careers article will be featured as our Reader’s choice spotlight. Make sure to vote for your favourite before 31-Dec-2018 11:59 pm EST

Featured Abstracts

As part of this year’s special edition, we will be featuring abstracts from students across the globe. If you are currently undertaking research, or have done in the past year, and want your abstract featured in Best of JYI 2018, make sure to read the guidelines below and submit your abstract!

Guidelines  

  • Deadline: 31-Dec-2018 11:59 pm EST

  • Author must be an undergraduate student at the time of submission

  • Submissions can be from anywhere in the world, but must be written in English

  • Submissions must be original work, and must not have been published elsewhere (JYI included)

  • Only one submission is allowed per student

  • Abstracts must be 250 words maximum

  • Two categories: written and graphical

  • Written Submission requirements:  

    • Author name(s), contact information, and university attended (+Proof of Enrolment)

    • Abstract title – limited to 20 words

    • Abstract – must contain the following information: introduction and objectives, methods, results, discussion

    • Name and contact information of your university research advisor.

  • Graphical Submission requirements:  

    • Author name(s), contact information, and university attended (+Proof of enrolment)

    • Abstract title – limited to 20 words

    • Image, submitted as .jpeg or equivalent, detailing the methods and the main findings of the study. This should summarize the study effectively to be understood without any supplementary resources

    • Optional: a caption of up to 100 words to accompany the graphical abstract. This should detail the importance of the study and the implications of the findings.

  • Despite abstracts not usually requiring references, up to 6 will be allowed per abstract. These must be in APA 6th edition format and do not count towards the word count.

  • There will be a reader’s vote for the best abstract

  • The best will be published in Best of JYI 2018, printed early 2019.

Cover Contest

 


As a printed edition, Best of JYI 2018 will need a cover image and what better way to introduce the best work published with us in 2018 than featuring our reader’s research on the cover? If your research involves some great images, make sure to submit them to our cover contest!

Guidelines

  • Deadline: 31-Dec-2018 11:59 pm EST

  • Artist must be an undergraduate student at the time of submission  

  • Submissions can be from anywhere in the world, but the caption must be written in English

  • Submissions must be in .jpg format or equivalent  

  • Submissions must be original work and must be science related.  

  • Submissions can be photos, artwork or any form of illustration.

  • Ideal Dimensions: 10.75” * 8.25”  

  • Submissions must be accompanied by a caption that effectively describes the photo, providing sufficient information for readers to understand the figure without being verbose.

  • Examples: confocal microscopy image, telescope image, photo of an endangered species, etc  

  • Up to 5 submissions per student

  • Submission requirements:

    • Author name(s), contact information, and university attended (+Proof of enrollment)

    • Figure title – limited to 15 words

    • Description - caption that effectively describes the photo, providing sufficient information for readers to understand the figure without being verbose. Limited to 75 words
