Dr. Courtney M. Peterson
DR. COURTNEY M. PETERSON is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she conducts clinical research on nutrition and metabolism. Her research interests center on testing novel dietary strategies to combat diabetes and obesity, particularly in the realms of intermittent fasting, meal timing, and food groups/dietary patterns. She received her Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University, where she studied theoretical cosmology, focusing on inflationary models of the very early universe. She has also received a Master's degree in clinical research from Tulane University, an M.Sc. in Science Communication from Imperial College London, and a Master's degree in theoretical physics at Cambridge University (Part III of the Math Tripos). Dr. Peterson is the past recipient of a KL2 Career Development Fellowship, a LA CaTS Roadmap Scholarship, an NIH T32 Fellowship, a Marshall Scholarship, an NSF Fellowship, and an NDSEG Fellowship. Dr. Peterson served on JYI's Executive Management from 1999-2004 in several roles, including Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief, and served as Chair of the JYI Board of Directors from 2007 - 2013.
