Matthew Brousil

Matthew is an academic thrillseeker, scientist-in-training, and a dedicated peer mentor. He is currently a fourth-year student at The Evergreen State College, on track to graduate in early 2014 with dual Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Prior to Evergreen, he earned the College of DuPage's Outstanding Graduate Award in 2011, graduating with dual Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees. His academic focuses at Evergreen are in Ecology and Sociology of Food Systems, though he also entertains interests in other fields, especially anthropology. His main areas of research experience are in temperate rainforest ecology and pest management in organic agricultural systems. Some of Matthew's recent projects include a field study in Chilean Patagonia and a set of lab trials testing potential management strategies for the agricultural pest, Scutigerella immaculata. After graduating from Evergreen he will pursue a graduate degree in ecology and is looking forward to the opportunity to teach at the university level. His favorite activities outside of class include managing the Evergreen State College Fencing Club, farming and gardening, running, bouldering and cooking.
