DR. COURTNEY M. PETERSON is an Assistant Professor and a KL2 Scholar at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, where she conducts clinical research on diabetes and metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Ravussin.  Her research interests center on dietary approaches to combat diabetes, particularly in the realms of time-restricted feeding/intermittent fasting, under- and over-eating, and high-nutrient foods.  She received her Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University, where she studied theoretical cosmology, focusing on inflationary models of the very early universe.  She has also received a Master's degree in clinical research from Tulane University, an M.Sc. in Science Communication from Imperial College London, and a Master's degree in theoretical physics at Cambridge University (Part III of the Math Tripos).  Dr. Peterson is the past recipient of an LA CaTS Roadmap Scholarship, NIH T32 Fellowship, a Marshall Scholarship, an NSF Fellowship, and an NDSEG Fellowship.  Dr. Peterson served on JYI's Executive Management from 1999-2004 in several roles, including Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief, and served as Chair of the JYI Board of Directors from 2007 - 2013.

One of the founding fathers of JYI, Brian Su, became the youngest person to co-PI a grant from the NSF. The purpose of the grant was to fund the start-up costs for JYI.
