Job Requirements

The News and Features Editor position, like most JYI staff positions, requires an average commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – News and Features Editors may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience

News and Features Editors must have previous experience writing news articles and/or feature articles for general interest publications. Good organization and time management skills are also required. Previous leadership and editing experience is preferred. News and Features Editors coordinate article reviews and submissions, meeting all deadlines to ensure that the publishing process is not slowed. Good motivational skills are beneficial for training new Science
Journalists. NFEs are expected to exhibit professionalism and lead their team through good example.
