Research Editor
Research Editors run small portions of JYI’s Research Department under the direction of the Senior Research Editor. A Research Editor’s responsibilities include the reviewal, revision, and publication of original research manuscripts.

Research Editors are also responsible for managing and directing the work of JYI’s Associate Editors. A Research Editor must enforce high standards for reviews, deliver on deadline, and help Associate Editors who encounter problems. In this way, a Research Editor is much more than an editor – a Research Editor must be a leader who actively guides his/her team.

Research Editors are often assigned extra projects in addition to their usual work. For example, Research Editors are often asked to help develop AE training materials or to participate in submission drives.

Job Requirements: The Research Editor position requires an average commitment of 5-10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – Research Editors may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff members are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: Research Editors are primarily leaders, and must have experience with leadership and evidence of being an effective leader. Exceptional organization and planning skills are also necessary. Since Research Editors handle very specific manuscripts, they must have previous research experience in the area they are applying to edit in; preferably, they will have written their own papers in that area. Finally, previous experience running a publication or directing a staff of writers is preferred, but not required.
