Professional Reviewer
Professional Reviewers (PRs) must be a practicing science writer or have extensive training to that effect. The best candidates for professional reviewers should earn their living from communicating science. Membership in NASW or affiliated science writing organizations is desirable.

Job Requirements: The Professional Reviewer position, like most JYI staff positions, requires an average commitment of approximately 5 hours per week. Each month, the Professional Reviewer will be sent a handful of features articles to review. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – Professional Reviewers may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: Professional Reviewers have usually graduated with an undergraduate degree and are further pursuing their scientific careers. Professional Reviewers should have an interest in working with science journalists to improve science journalists’ scientific writing skills. They should be interested in conveying topics related to science, technology, medicine, and the policies or laws affecting the same to a broad audience in a captivating style. Previous journalism or science writing experience is beneficial though not required.
