Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for coordinating the Human Resources Department at JYI. The DHR coordinates and assists HR Managers in expanding recruitment, recruiting new and talented staff, and smoothly moving applicants through the application process. The DHR also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Director of Human Resources position is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the DHR may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Director of Human Resources must have demonstrated leadership skills and experience. The DHR must keep accurate staff records and must lead Human Resource Managers in widely varied tasks, so organization and time-management skills are vital. The best DHRs have had experience leading teams of people toward varied goals and working in detail-oriented environments. The DHR should also have experience working with professionals, or in a professional environment. Most importantly, the DHR must be passionate about providing the best opportunities for JYI's staff and seeing the journal succeed.

Director of Public Relations
The Director of Public Relations handles all public relations for JYI and recruitment of submissions through professional avenues. The DPR leads and assists a team of Public Relations Officers in developing and updating marketing materials such as PR manuals, posters, brochures, advertisements, and a PR newsletter. In addition, the DPR coordinates the writing and distribution of press releases and works with the media (including student newspapers) to promote JYI.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Director of Public Relations must have demonstrated leadership skills and experience. The DPR must have great communication skills, be comfortable reaching out to diverse and unfamiliar professionals and groups, and have a passion for promoting JYI's mission and broadening its reach. The DPR should have previous experience with advertising and outreach for a group, and formal marketing experience is beneficial. The DPR also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Managing Editor
The Managing Editor coordinates various aspects of the journal, including copy-editing, and serves as the BOD secretary. The ME also handles all BOD applicants and serves as the chairperson at all official BOD meetings. In addition, the ME is in charge of JYI's archiving and various other duties. The ME also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Managing Editor is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the ME may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Managing Editor must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. These are essential, as the ME must coordinate BOD meetings. Deadlines are all-important, and the ME must also be able to work in a deadline driven environment and have experience meeting and making deadlines. Copy editing experience is also beneficial. Most importantly, however, is a commitment to see the journal process through.

Chief Development Officer
The Chief Development Officer is primarily responsible for both attaining funding from and maintaining relationships with JYI's sponsors. This may involve contacting new companies or organizations about supporting JYI's mission or keeping past sponsors informed about JYI's current operations. The CDO is also responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing and filing necessary legal forms, and managing expenditures. The CDO also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Chief Development Officer is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the CDO may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Chief Development Officer must be creative, comfortable with writing, and willing to make unsolicited contact with companies and organizations. Leadership and organizational skills are essential, as the CDO coordinates a staff of financial officers in acheiving the financial goals of JYI. Past fund raising and financial experience is also essential.

Director of the Career Center
The Director of the Career Center manages JYI's Science Career Center. The DCC directs the Career Editors and Researchers and edits final articles prior to publication. The DCC is responsible for managing the SCC's starting grant and maintaining day-to-day activities of the SCC, coordinating the creation of timely and informative resources for the SCC. The DCC also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Director of the Career Center is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the DCC may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Director of the Career Center must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. These are essential, as the DCC must coordinate a staff of between 5 and 10 junior editors and writers. Continuous production of informative and timely material is all-important, and the DCC must be able to work in a deadline-driven environment. Ideally, the DCC should have previous experience running a publication. More importantly, the DCC should have a passion for the mission of the Science Career Center, be creative and professional, and be dedicated to advancing the journal.

Senior Research Editor
The Senior Research Editor manages JYI's Research Department. The SRE receives submissions from authors, assigns them to Research Editors, corresponds with advisors and Associate Editors, and edits final manuscripts prior to publication. The SRE also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Senior Research Editor position is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the SRE may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Senior Research Editor must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. These are essential, as the SRE must coordinate a staff of between 30 and 100 junior editors. Deadlines are all-important, and the SRE must be able to work in a deadline-driven environment. Ideally, the SRE should have previous experience running a large publication. The most successful SREs have had at least 4 years experience managing a publication. The SRE should also have experience working with professionals, or in a professional environment. Most importantly, however, is commitment and a desire to see the journal advance.

Senior News and Features Editor
The Senior Features Editor manages JYI's News & Features Department. The SFE directs the News Editors and Features Editors, guides the Science Journalists, and edits final articles prior to publication. The SFE also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Senior Features Editor position is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the SFE may live anywhere in the world. Preferred Skills or Experience: The Senior Features Editor must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. These are essential, as the SFE must coordinate a staff of between 20 and 60 junior editors and Science Journalists. Deadlines are all-important, and the SFE must be able to work in a deadline-driven environment. Ideally, the SFE should have previous experience running a large publication. The most successful SFE have had at least 2 years experience managing a publication. More importantly, the SFE should have a passion for science writing, be creative and professional, and be dedicated to advancing the journal.

Chief Technical Officer
The Chief Technical Officer acts as the webmaster and is responsible for maintaining and updating the JYI Web site. This includes the development and maintenance of the Web site, Web servers, the Journal Management System (JMS), electronic systems, JYI email aliases, and the formatting of the journal contents for publication. The CTO oversees the non-article (non-journal) content and the design, layout, and graphics on the Web pages. The CTO also serves on JYI's Board of Directors, which directs the organization as a whole.

Job Requirements: The Chief Technical Officer position is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the CTO may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Chief Technical Officer must have extensive experience with PHP and MySQL, preferably with a past project already complete for consideration. Experience with Macromedia Flash and ActionScript is preferred, as is experience in other programming languages. The best applicants will have experience with several different website and media development tools. The CTO should be able to work with a team to accomplish common goals, coordinating the technical department's programmers and graphic artists.

Chief Executive Officer
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for maintaining JYI's corporate status and its relationships with external bodies, including science foundations, corporate sponsors, and JYI alumni. The CEO is also responsible for coordinating the corporate board members to ensure that the positions work in tandem. Along with the Editor-in-Chief, the CEO is responsible for maintaining a shared vision for JYI and ensuring that the Board of Directors as a whole is working together toward a common goal in accordance with that vision and JYI's mission.

Job Requirements: The Chief Executive Officer position is a Board of Directors position, and, like all BOD positions, requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – the CEO may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: The Chief Executive Officer must have experience leading a large organization. Professionalism and the ability to work and communicate with professionals in academia and business is essential. Organization and time-management skills are vital, as the CEO must coordinate the achievement of goals that span several departments. The CEO must handle pressure well and remain capable of accomplishing his or her objectives. Finally, applicants from the existing Board of Directors are preferred, due to their previous experience leading a department at JYI.
