Technical Department
The JYI website is entering an exciting period of change, and Technical Officers are integral to this phase. Sporting significantly more multimedia content than in the past, the site is transitioning from being statically updated to being dynamically updated. In the very near future, static web page content will be revamped and a web-based publishing system will be introduced. Programmers are needed to ensure a smooth transition takes place. Graphic Artists will then begin adding many more visual aids to the site than what is currently being used. Such aids may include interactive Flash presentations for features articles and breaking news stories. Both Programmers and Graphic Artists will also be essential to launching JYI’s Career Development Network. Within a year, the JYI website will be an easily accessible, robust, and interactive experience for its visitors.

Graphic Artist
Graphic Artists will be responsible for enhancing the visual feel of the website, including creating new interfaces and adding illustrations to feature articles. These individuals will also be responsible for gathering and creating multimedia for new JYI projects such as the JYI Focus series (e.g., http://www.jyi.org/focus/smallpox/).

Job Requirements: The Graphic Artist position, like most JYI staff positions, requires an average commitment of at least 5 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – Graphic Artists may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Preferred Skills or Experience: Graphic Artists do not necessarily have to be web-savvy. Photographers, drawers, or other artistically-inclined people are actively sought. Graphic Artists should have at least some familiarity with photo-editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, and should feel comfortable creating original artwork (hand-drawn or photographed). The more familiar a Graphic Artist is with photo editing and other graphics software (i.e., 3-D software such as 3-D Studio Max), the better.
