JYI is currently seeking motivated science undergrads to fill a variety of positions. Editorial, management, writing, reporting, fundraising, and public relations positions are available.
We welcome applications from any current undergraduates. Applicants must have a strong academic background and be proficient in the English language. All applicants for editorial positions must also demonstrate both research and writing experience.

Professional Reviewers (PRs) must be a practicing science writer or have extensive training to that effect. The best candidates for professional reviewers should earn their living from communicating science. Membership in NASW or affiliated science writing organizations is desirable.

Editor: Biology
Editors perform the crucial function of evaluating research and review manuscripts submitted to JYI in the field of Biological Sciences. Editors are assigned a varying number of manuscripts to review based upon their own schedules and work pace. The Editors read through and analyze the manuscripts, filling in various review forms, and then are required to meet with his/her Faculty Advisor to discuss the paper. Based on their evaluations, Editors recommend whether or not the manuscript should be accepted for publication. Besides reviewing manuscripts, Editors may also participate in other functions, such as submissions and staff recruitment, and editorial writing among others.

Copy Editor
The Copy Editor position, like most JYI staff positions, requires an average commitment of at least 5 hours per week. All communication is via internet or phone, so no geographical constraints exist – Copy Editors may live anywhere in the world. All JYI staff are expected to check their email daily and respond promptly if necessary.

Career Research Editor
Career Research Editors are responsible for training, managing, and maintaining communications with Career Researchers. A Career Research Editor provides advice and guidance to the Career Researchers as they write their articles, coordinates the article review process, and edits articles before they are sent to the Director of the Career Center (DCC) for final approval.

The recently launched Science Career Center is looking for Career Researchers to report on science careers in all fields, including academia, industry, government, science communication and teaching. This is an exciting position which requires the researcher to network with professionals in all fields, interview people nationally and internationally, gather statistics and career facts to write informative articles for college students all over the country. No experience is necessary and CR's will be officially trained in science journalism for this position. The SCC is collaborating with prominent leaders in science, such as Science magazine, so this is an opportunity to network and learn valuable skills while helping your colleagues.

Graphic Artists will be responsible for enhancing the visual feel of the website, including creating new interfaces and adding illustrations to feature articles. These individuals will also be responsible for gathering and creating multimedia for new JYI projects such as the JYI Focus series (e.g.,

Programmer
Programmers will work with the Chief Technical Officer to develop new sections of the JYI website such as the Science Career Center. Programmers will play a key role in bringing flexibility to the JYI website by creating modules and other elements to improve user experience. Programmers will also ensure that optimal coding powers the JYI site.
