Attention Undergraduates! JYI is currently seeking motivated science undergrads to fill a variety of unpaid positions. Editorial, management, writing, reporting, fundraising, and public relations positions are available on a volunteering basis.

We welcome applications from any current undergraduates. Applicants must have a strong academic background and be proficient in the English language. All applicants for editorial positions must also demonstrate both research and writing experience.

Executive Board

Chief Development Officer
The Chief Development Officer is primarily responsible for both attaining funding from and maintaining relationships with JYI's sponsors. This may involve contacting new companies or organizations about supporting JYI's mission or keeping past sponsors informed about JYI's current operations. more info
Chief Technical Officer
The Chief Technical Officer acts as the webmaster and is responsible for maintaining and updating the JYI Web site. This includes the development and maintenance of the Web site, Web servers, the Journal Management System (JMS), electronic systems, JYI email aliases, and the formatting of the journal contents for publication. more info
Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for coordinating the Human Resources Department at JYI. The DHR coordinates and assists HR Managers in expanding recruitment, recruiting new and talented staff, and smoothly moving applicants through the application process. more info
Director of the Career Center
The Director of the Career Center manages JYI's Science Career Center. The DCC directs the Career Editors and Researchers and edits final articles prior to publication. more info

Human Resources Department

Human Resources Manager
The Human Resources Manager works closely with the Director of Human Resources to accomplish the goals of the Human Resources Department. The HR Manager will work not only with the DHR but also the PR Department to make promotional materials and contact faculty, university programs and student groups to recruit both staff and submissions, while maintaining a database of existing contacts. more info

News and Features Department

News and Features Editor
News and Features Editors are responsible for training, managing, and maintaining communications with a small group of Science Journalists. A News and Features Editor provides advice and guidance to the Science Journalists as they write their articles and coordinates the article review process. more info
Science Journalist
Science Journalists work under the guidance of Feature Editors to write and review feature and news articles for publication. more info
Science Writing Mentor
The Science Writing Mentor (SWM) must be a practicing science writer or have extensive training to that effect. The best candidates for professional reviewers should earn their living from communicating science. more info

Public Relations Department

PR Officer
The PR Officer works closely with the Director of Public Relations to coordinate public relations and manuscript submissions for JYI. PR Officers will generally work in the following areas: advertising, visual materials development, and creating or maintaining outreach programs. more info

Editor: Biology
Editors perform the crucial function of evaluating research and review manuscripts submitted to JYI in the field of Biological Sciences. Editors are assigned a varying number of manuscripts to review based upon their own schedules and work pace. more info
Editor: Chemistry
Editors perform the crucial function of evaluating research and review manuscripts submitted to JYI in the field of Chemistry. Editors are assigned a varying number of manuscripts to review based upon their own schedules and work pace. more info
Editor: Engineering

Science Career Center

Career Researcher
The Science Career Center is looking for Career Researchers to report on science careers in all fields, including academia, industry, government, science communication and teaching. This is an exciting position which requires the researcher to network with professionals in all fields, interview people nationally and internationally, gather statistics and career facts to write informative articles for college students all over the country. more info

Technical Department

Graphic Artist
Graphic Artists will be responsible for enhancing the visual feel of the website, including creating new interfaces and adding illustrations to feature articles. These individuals will also be responsible for gathering and creating multimedia for new JYI projects such as the JYI Focus series (e.g., http://www.jyi.org/focus/smallpox/). more info
Programmer
Programmers will work with the Chief Technical Officer to develop new sections of the JYI website such as the Science Career Center. Programmers will play a key role in bringing flexibility to the JYI website by creating modules and other elements to improve user experience. more info
